The photos of Bettie Page in this section were taken by Jack Bradley at
Jonni Wilson's apartment, another 1950s figure model. Although I never
had contact with Jack Bradley, I heard that he was an irascible fellow.
This information is from someone who supposedly knew him. During the mid
1990s when the hunt for Bettie Page treasure was in full force, many
photographers were hunted down. I can see how a photographer could get
annoyed with all the unwanted attention. Some people enjoyed basking in
their new found limelight and answering questions about Bettie Page
while others just wanted to be left alone. I think Jack was one of those
people who wanted other people to mind their own business.
I was contacted by Robert Reddell on Feb. 24 2008 regarding Bettie Page
photographer Jack Bradley who was married to Joan Rydell.
"My name is Robert Reddell I set up this MySpace account as a tribute to
my late Aunt
Joan "Eve" Rydell
and to the women and men that had the courage to perform in those
difficult times, both as burlesque performers, pin-up models and
photographers.
Joan was a model in the 1940s and 50s for Irving and Paula Klaw and
posed for many magazines such as Wink, Flirt, Whisper, Titter, Beauty
Parade, and many many others under the name Eve Rydell.
Joan passed away in 1969 from cervix cancer. I have been told that not
only did she model and do 16mm film loops, but she also danced and sang
at some point in her career. I was curious, if anyone has more
historical information regarding Joan. She worked with Lois Meriden
Cocoa Brown and many others.
Joan married John 'Jack' Bradley who was a photographer for Irving and
Paula Klaw. He took more pictures of Bettie Page than any other
photographer. When Joan retired they moved to Atlantic City where Jack
became a photographer to the stars such as Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin,
Samy Davis Jr. the Marx Brothers and well just about everyone that was
anyone in the 1950s.
I am mainly looking for information about both Joan and Jack, but also
photos, clothing, films, articles. I need to know everything about these
two very historical individuals.
Thank you in advance for any and all help locating my families' history.
Please post this message anywhere and every where to help us in this
mission to preserve Joan and Jack's lives." -Robert Reddell
