The Robert Collins photos of Bettie Page have an interesting
history. A few photographs found their way to eBay in the early
2000s in the form of modern reprints without any mention of who took
the original photographs. It is possible the seller did not know who
the photographer was and used copy negatives which originally were
used for the 1995 publication "Bettie Page Queen of Hearts" by Jim
Silke. It's nice to finally put a name with these mysterious photos.
Some of the photographs were supposedly taken during an outing
called the "Manhattan Camera Club Session". Other than that, I have
not been able to gather any information on Robert Collins. He was a
good photographer with a distinct style. Usually, a photographer
gravitates towards one genre but Robert Collins was adept at doing
pin-up, figure and portrait photography!
The first set of scans represent the Robert Collins collection in their
unadulterated form and were scanned from 8x10" vintage photographs. All
the scans are of very high quality and can be blown up many times in an
image browser.
