"You asked me to tell about that model. Actually I purely remember details,
because she was photographed when I was young. It was photographed in
Vilnius in the reserve. It was very beautiful place, where was blooming
flora. This is all I had remembered about that time. Her name is Jovita. She
is very famous musician not only in Lithuania , but in other countries. As I
remembered I had taken those photos about 40 years ago."
-Rimantas Dichavicius 2007
I saw the above magnificent image and had to find out what book it was
published in. After some investigation, I found out the photograph came
from a book entitled "Ziedai Tarp Ziedu" (Blossoms Among Blossoms)
published in 1989 by Rimantas Dichavicius. After receiving it, I was taken
aback by the beautiful photographs. The models are one and completely
entwined with their surroundings. I ordered the book from abebooks.com
and Amazon sometimes has copies. There are a few photographers who have a
somewhat similar style to Rimantas but I won't denigrate his work by making
comparisons. I still can't believe these were taken in the 1960s. There are
about five plates of Jovita in Blossoms. I contacted Rimantas and asked him
how many photos he took of her. When he said there were 21 total, that got
the ball rolling. I consider the above image one of the best of the
top 13
s ever managed on film. Please make sure to go to the
macro
section so you can appreciate all of the Jovita photos in a larger size.
Rimantas Dichavicius recently published a book in 2007 entitled
"Visions" which is an extraordinary collection of figure studies mixed
in with a kaleidoscope of color. The book is a masterpiece.
